Vol. 136 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Insurance.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the estimated number of additional persons who have been insured in consequence of the raising of the wages ceiling for insurance purposes under the Social Welfare Act to £600 per annum.

There are no statistics available of the number of persons employed under a contract of service who have salaries or wages exceeding £500 per annum and not exceeding £600 per annum.

Persons applying for an insurance card are not required to state the amount of their salary or wages.

It is, therefore, not possible to state the estimated number of additional persons who have been insured in consequence of the raising of the wages ceiling for insurance purposes to £600 per annum.
