Vol. 136 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Turbary Rights.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that there are many householders in the town of Cahirciveen and many farmers in the surrounding districts who have no turbary rights, as well as others whose turbary plots are now cut away and that the Land Commission possess extensive turbary in the area not yet allocated to tenants; and, if so, if he will take the necessary steps to divide such turbary so that at least an acre of bog is allotted to each such house-holder anxious to lease it.

The Land Commission have on hands only a small area of turbary, most of which is undeveloped, in this district. However, proceedings have been instituted in respect of some 500 acres of turbary and a further 280 acres are the subject of inquiries.
