Vol. 136 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Urban Charges under Works Act.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will notify the Cork County Council that the procedure adopted by them last year under which certain charges under the Local Authorities (Works) Act and other Acts were unjustly levied on the urban areas cannot again be adopted, and if he will ensure that the urban areas concerned will now have credited to their accounts the moneys so levied last year.

The attention of the accounting officers of the Cork County Council has been drawn to the procedure for the preparation and computation of the apportioned shares of charges to be included in demands made by the county council on the urban authorities.

In regard to the second part of the question, I have been assured that full credit has been given to the urban authorities in the county council's accounts for the sums charged against them in 1952-53 in respect of expenditure on works carried out under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949. This credit will be reflected in the respective demands made by the county council on the urban authorities in relation to the financial year 1953-54.
