asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount of British Government securities held by Government Departments and agencies (including the Post Office, the courts, the Department of Social Welfare and all other Government Departments and agencies, but excluding the Central Bank); and if he will give in respect of such British investments their nominal value and their market value as at the 31st March, 1951, 31st March, 1952 and 31st January, 1953.

The nominal amount and market value of British Government securities held by Government Departments or agencies, including the Courts of Justice, at 31st March, 1951, and 31st March, 1952, were given in reply to questions by the Deputy on 8th November, 1951, and 4th June, 1952, respectively. Corresponding figures for 31st January, 1953, are not available as the returns on which the figures are based are furnished annually after the close of each financial year. The figures as at 31st March, 1953, will be available towards the end of May.
