Vol. 136 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give early consideration to an application by the residents in the village of Doughbeg, Westport, County Mayo, for an extension of the present rural electrification scheme now nearing completion from Newport via Mulrany, Pulrany and Achill Island.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the village of Doughbeg is included in the Mulrany rural area which has been developed but that, owing to the distance of the village from the nearest point of supply, the board considered it necessary to quote increased fixed charges for the extension of supply to the village and that the householders concerned did not accept these terms.

The selection of areas for development under the rural electrification scheme and the localities to be included in these areas are matters entirely for the E.S.B. and in which I have no function. I can only suggest that the householders concerned should communicate with the board's district engineer in Galway.
