Vol. 136 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Consulates in Britain.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether, in view of the serious increase in emigration from this country to Britain, he will consider the establishment of Irish consulates in the principal British cities.

It is not proposed to establish Irish consulates in the principal British cities.

With regard to the assertion made in the first part of his question, the Deputy will be aware, if he reads thereplies given by the Taoiseach to a number of questions on this subject over the period May, 1952, to February, 1953, that no statistics are available upon which such an assertion could be reliably based.

Is the Minister aware that everybody in the country knows it is a fact?

Only Fine Gael.
