Vol. 136 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Defence Forces Footwear Contracts.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he has placed a contract for the supply of footwear for members of the Defence Forces; and, if so, whether he will state the number of firms with whom contracts were made, the value of each contract and the number of pairs to be supplied by each firm, and whether contracts were given to all firms who supplied footwear for the Defence Forces under contract during the last three years.

The most recent competition for footwear for the Defence Forces was in December, 1952. On the basis of tenders received, a contract was placed with Traly Footwear, Limited, Tralee.

Contract prices are confidential, and I regret, therefore, that I cannot state the value of the contract.

No other contract was placed as a result of this competition. Ten manufacturers had contracts in the last three years, of whom six received contracts in 1950, eight in 1951 and seven in 1952.
