Vol. 136 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Frozen Eggs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that at the annual meeting of the British Baking Industries Research Association a member referred to Irish frozen eggs as shocking stuff, and in view of the fact that this remark is detrimental to the good name of Irish eggs, if he is prepared to make a statement on the matter.

Mr. Walsh

I have seen the reference in question in the report of the 1952 annual general meeting of the association and I have had the attention of the association drawn to the fact that frozen egg is not being exported from the Republic to Great Britain and that the reference is, therefore, misleading.

Will the Minister not say that the reference must be untrue?I understand that this body said that frozen egg was being used which had been imported from Ireland and that its quality was below standard. As none is being exported, that is not only misleading but untrue. Will the Minister take it up with this body?

Mr. Walsh

We have already done so.

Will the Minister publish the result?
