Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Minor Employment Scheme.
The amount allocated to County Kerry under minor employment schemes for the financial year, 1952/53, was £16,890. Expenditure up to 7th March, 1953 was £14,635, and of this sum £10,865 represented wages and £3,770 the cost of materials. The proportion of expenditure as between wages and materials necessarily varies in different areas, as it is dependent, inter alia,on the availability of suitable road-making material within a reasonable distance of the sites of the works.
Except for a relatively small number of men, such as gangers, all those receiving wages were recruited from the unemployment assistance register in the employment offices.
