Vol. 138 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Withdrawal of Racehorse.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the reasons why the National Stud has decided to withdraw the racehorse, Tulyar, from the Coronation Cup and other events this year.

The reason was stated by the directors of the National Stud Company in a statement which appeared in the newspapers on the 16th April. In this statement, the directors announced that: "As the increase in the capital of the National Stud Company was providedfor the purpose of purchasing a stallion, the question of racing Tulyar does not arise."

Would it not be nearer the truth to say that the reason this so-called National Stud withdrew this horse from these races, and particularly the Coronation Cup, was their anxiety to ensure that the horse Gay Time, owned by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth of England, would win the Coronation Cup?

Is the Minister aware that this horse has been very extensively raced in this House and that some of the jockeys have been rather overweight?

You are under the whip, too.

Deputy Dunne is having a gay time with it.
