Vol. 139 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Creamery Butter.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state why Irish creamery butter is not permitted to be sold in Dublin, Dún Laoghaire and Bray at present.

The only control (other than price control) on the sale of Irish creamery butter or imported butter in the area mentioned by the Deputy is that the butter must be obtained from the Butter Marketing Committee or from a person who obtained it from the Committee. As I informed the Deputy in reply to his question on this subject on 7th May, 1953, the distribution of Irish creamery butter by the committee in this area will be resumed as soon as present stocks of imported butter have been disposed of, which will probably be within three months. This imported butter is of choice quality.

That is your opinion.
