asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the net external assets of (a) the Central Bank, (b) the associated banks and (c) the Post Office Savings Bank at 31st March, 1953.

The net external assets of the associated banks at 17th March, 1953, (the date nearest to 31st March, 1953, for which figures are available), amounted to £121.3 million. The external assets of the Central Bank on the same date amounted to £71.4 million.
The market value of the external securities of the Post Office Savings Bank Fund was £22.3 million at 31st March, 1953.
I hope every member of the House will think seriously on these figures.
Can the Parliamentary Secretary say whether the sum of £22,000,000 he mentioned in regard tothe Post Office Savings Bank was included in the total of £37,000,000 mentioned by the Minister yesterday in reply to a parliamentary question?
