Vol. 139 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Authorities: Dentists.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state in respect of each health authority the number of (a) whole-time and (b) part-timedentists employed by such authority and the terms of service in each case.

It would not be possible within the scope of a reply to a parliamentary question to indicate the "terms of service" of the 69 dentists referred to in the question as the expression includes such matters as duties, salaries, pensionability, sick and annual leave, hours of attendance and travelling expenses.

As the reply to the first part of the question is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to include it in the Official Report. Dentists employed exclusively by public assistance authorities and/or mental hospital authorities are not included.

Could the Minister not give some indication of the position in regard to the number of part-time dentists?

They vary in many cases.

Could the Minister not even give the number of part-time dentists employed by each local authority?

That information is contained in the tabular statement.
