Vol. 140 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coastal Training Ship.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware of the need for a small coastal training ship to meet the requirements of the Irish naval service for the training of new entrants and reserves in peace time and for utilisation for the transport of naval and military stores in an emergency and, if so, if he will state when it will be possible to provide such a vessel.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is "Yes". I cannot, however, give any forecast as to when it will be possible to provide such a vessel.

Can the Minister state in what vessel the new entrants are being trained at present?

The corvettes. They are the only vessels we have at the moment.
