Vol. 141 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of River Delvin (County Dublin).

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that a number of land owners in County Meath adjoining the Garristown-Delvin drainage area cannot have land drained under the land project because the necessary finance cannot be obtained immediately from the Office ofPublic Works under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, or from the Department of Local Government under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, for the draining of the River Delvin in that area and, if so, if he is prepared to take action on behalf of farmers who desire to drain their land.

Mr. Walsh

I am aware that in this as in many other areas the drainage of some land must await the clearance of certain large rivers or watercourses. I understand that, in reply to other Dáil questions which the Deputy has put down, he is being informed of the position regarding the Delvin River in so far as the Departments mentioned in the question may be concerned.
