Vol. 143 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cow-Plots.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that there are many cottage tenants and uneconomic holders adjoining the Langford estate at Summerhill, County Meath, which is about to be divided; further, if he is aware that in recent years cottagetenants have not been allotted accommodation plots by the Land Commission; and, if so, if he will ask the Land Commission to make arrangements to make available a cow-plot for those very deserving tenants.

Mr. Lynch

The applications of all cottiers and uneconomic holders living in the vicinity of the estate will be fully considered when the Land Commission come to deal with the allotment of the lands on hands; the possibility of providing a cow-park will also be examined.

In connection with cottiers, I would refer the Deputy to my reply given to a question put by Deputy Keyes on the 10th of this month.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a large section of cottage tenants from the Gilbertstown and Dalystown area of South Meath have forwarded a testimonial to the Land Commission asking that a cow-plot be acquired and made available for grazing; further, if he is aware that the Land Commission have intensified the cottage tenants' plight in this congested area by depriving them of the grazing facilities they formerly enjoyed; and, if so, if he will ask the Land Commission to facilitate those deserving applicants.

Mr. Lynch

The suggestion regarding the provision of a cow-park in the vicinity of Gilberstown and Dalystown will be considered if and when suitable lands become available for this purpose.

As the Land Commission has not acquired any lands near these two townlands in recent years, I am unable to see how they could have deprived anyone of grazing facilities, but if the Deputy will furnish details of the matter it will be investigated.
