Vol. 143 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Letterkenny Post Office.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware of the chaotic conditions which exist in Letterkenny post office, particularly during the Christmas period, due to inadequacy of the present building; and, if so, if he will state the cause of the delay in constructing new premises and when the construction of new premises is likely to be commenced.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the present position regarding the proposals for the erection of a new post office in Letterkenny.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 70 and 71 together.

I am aware that the Letterkennypost office premises fall short of requirements in many respects, but additional accommodation is rented during the Christmas season to meet the increased postal traffic during that period. I understand that these arrangements worked satisfactorily last year.

Preliminary sketch plans for the proposed new post office and telephone exchange buildings required considerable detailed examination and revision. Revised plans have now been prepared and provision will be made to enable building work to be commenced in the coming financial year.
