Vol. 143 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Operations of State Trawlers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the total number of days spent at sea by the three State trawlers during their first ten months operations and the number of days not so spent owing to weather conditions; further, if he will state the number of days spent at sea by the trawlers during weather conditions which prevented inshore boats from engaging in fishing operations; and, finally, if he will state what proportion of the 3,600 cwt. fish landed by these trawlers was secured when the inshore boats could not put to sea.

I am informed by An Bord Iascaigh Mhara that the vessels referred to spent 450 days on fishing trips in the period mentioned. The vessels were not confined to harbour at any time owing to weather conditions. There are no records available as to the other points raised in the Deputy's question.
