Vol. 143 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Letterkenny-Strabane Rail Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the ever-increasing importance of our tourist traffic, and in order to relieve hardship caused to ordinary travelling public, he will endeavour to get the responsible authority to improve greatly and speed up the rail service between Letterkenny and Strabane, or, alternatively, to provide a road service.

I am informed by the County Donegal Railways Joint Committee that they are doing everything possible to provide satisfactory services on this line and that they will examine sympathetically any representations which may be made to them.

Is the Minister aware that the service given on this line at the moment is very much worse than it was during the period of the emergency? In view of that, will he make further representations and ask that something be definitely done to improve the service before the next tourist season begins?

We have closed too many railway lines unfortunately.
