Vol. 143 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Christmas Postal Deliveries.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will have the staffs in every post office in the Republic increased so that all Christmas letters and parcels will be delivered on or before Christmas Eve.

Staffs of post offices are always increased, as required, to ensure that all letters and parcels posted by the latest advertised dates of posting are delivered on or before Christmas Eve.

Are we to understand from the Minister's reply that no post office in the Republic will have any parcels or letters intended for delivery before Christmas left over until after St. Stephen's Day?

That is quite impossible to state as persons may post too late for delivery.

I mean will letters and parcels sent in time to the post office for delivery on Christmas Eve be delivered on Christmas Eve?

It is impossible to commit myself to any reply to that. All I can say is that on the occasion of last Christmas and the Christmas before I did not receive any complaints of a noticeable character that there had been delays in delivery.

Does the Minister not agree that it is unsatisfactory for people to receive Christmas cards or parcels after Christmas, even though they may have been posted in time?
