Vol. 144 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reorganisation of Postal Services.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the cause of the delay in proceeding with the reorganisation of postal services in County Waterford, and when the work will be put in hands.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state in what head office areas a reorganisation of services has been carried out in 1953; in what areas it is proposed to carry out such reorganisation in 1954; and when it is anticipated that the reorganisation will be completed in all areas.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 35 and 36 together.

During 1953 a reorganisation of the postal services was carried out in the head office districts of Dundalk, An Uaimh, Ceanannus Mór, Monaghan, Cahir, Clonmel and portion of the Sligo district. The revised working in all these districts will be implemented shortly. Improved postal services will be provided in the portion of County Waterford which is served from the Clonmel head office.

The following districts are listed for examination in 1954: Tuam, Bandon, Skibbereen, Killarney, Tralee, Castle-rea and the remainder of Sligo. When this programme is completed, the order of priority for the remaining areas will be decided. I cannot indicate when the reorganisation of the remainder of County Waterford will be undertaken or when the reorganisation scheme is likely to be completed in all areas. Deputies may be assured, however, that there will be no avoidable delay in carrying out the work.

Could the Minister say when the reorganisation scheme will take place in Enniscorthy?

I am unable to say at this stage.
