Ordinarily, two conditions require to be fulfilled before State assistance is provided for works of this kind, namely, payment of a local contribution and the giving of an undertaking to maintain the works when completed. In view of exceptional circumstances in this case, one of the conditions was waived. The local authority has been requested to fulfil the other condition regarding future maintenance. Dredging operations will be resumed as soon as possible after the receipt of a favourable reply.
