Vol. 144 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Seed Oats and Potatoes.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that for the second season in succession rate-payers in the Lettercan district of Dungloe, County Donegal, have received no seed oats or seed potatoes under his Department's scheme; and, if so, if he will take immediate steps to remedy this situation.

Mr. Walsh

Last year and again this year, meetings of smallholders were convened by my Department's local parish agents at two centres in very close proximity to Lettercan for the purpose of taking orders for seed oats and seed potatoes under the seed distribution scheme in the congested districts.

Due publicity, by means of posters and church announcements, was given of the location, date and hour of each meeting, an ample allocation of seed was available, and orders were accepted from all eligible applicants who attended the meetings.

I am satisfied that these arrangements gave the smallholders of Lettercan sufficient opportunity of placing orders for their requirements of seed.
