Vol. 144 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Airport Workers' Bus Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will arrange to have a bus service instituted between Sixmilebridge and Shannon Airport to accommodate airport workers who live in Sixmilebridge area.

I am aware that the provision of a bus service from Sixmilebridge to Shannon Airport was discussed between the airport manager and C.I.E. during 1952, when it was considered that the proposed service could not be operated except at a substantial loss. I am prepared, because of the special circumstances, to ask C.I.E. to examine the proposal again.

Mr. O'Higgins

Would the Minister indicate what the "special circumstances" were?

Ordinarily, I would contend that the decision as to whether a bus service was practicable or not was one for C.I.E. and not for me. The "special circumstances" are that the service was required to convey people who are principally employed in the Department of Industry and Commerce.

Mr. O'Higgins

It had nothing to do with an early general election?

Nothing whatever.
