Vol. 145 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Banteer-Newmarket Railway Line.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is now in a position to publish the findings of the tribunal which sat at Kanturk, County Cork, in connection with the application by C.I.E. to close the Banteer-Newmarket branch line.

Mr. Lynch

The procedure to be followed by the Transport Tribunal in dealing with applications by C.I.E. for authority to close branch lines is governed by the provisions of the Transport Act, 1950.

The Act does not require the tribunal to furnish me with a report or to inform me of their decision in any case.

So far as I am aware, the tribunal has not made any decision on this application.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary ask the Minister for Industry and Commerce to make representations on behalf of this branch line similar to those which he made recently, unsolicited, on behalf of the Mitchelstown branch line?

Mr. Lynch

I will communicate that to the Minister.
