Vol. 145 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pensions Act.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of applications for military service pensions which are still under consideration from persons residing in (a) Laois and (b) Offaly.

The number of applications and petitions which were submitted following the enactment of the Military Service Pensions (Amendment) Act, 1949, and which are still under consideration by the Board of Assessors and by the Referee in 73 in respect of the County of Laois and 113 in respect of the County of Offaly.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state in respect of (a) the County of Laois and (b) the County of Offaly the number of persons in receipt of or entitled to military service pensions.

The numbers of persons at present residing in (a) the County of Laois and (b) the County of Offaly who are in receipt of military service pensions are 54 and 143, respectively. There are two further cases in Laois in which certificates of military service have been granted but payment of pension has not yet been made. Payment will shortly be effected in these two cases.

In the absence of reports from the Board of Assessors and from the Referee, I have no information as to the further number of persons in the counties mentioned who may qualify for the grant of service certificates which would render them eligible for the award of military service pensions.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state in respect of (a) the County of Laois and (b) the County of Offaly the number of persons in receipt of special allowances under the Military Service Pensions Acts.

The numbers of persons at present residing in (a) the County of Laois and (b) the County of Offaly who are in receipt of special allowances under the Army Pensions Acts are 71 and 76 respectively.
