Vol. 145 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will indicate the townlands in North Galway to which the E.S.B. propose to extend the rural electrification scheme in the next nine months.

I have been informed by the E.S.B. that work under the rural electrification scheme is at present in progress in the North Galway areas of Abbeyknockmoy, Ballinamore, Cummer and Gorteen and in the Ballymoe and Ballyforan areas, part of which are in North Galway. I have also been informed that the areas awaiting development in the board's Galway district, which includes North Galway, will shortly be considered by the board for the purpose of selecting the areas to be developed during the present year but it is not possible to state what areas will then be selected.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the rural electrification scheme will be extended to the Araglen district in County Cork.

I have been informed by the E.S.B. that if the local canvass at present being carried out by interested persons shows that there is a satisfactory demand for rural electrification in the Araglen area, County Cork, an official canvass of the residents will be initiated in the near future. I have been further informed that Araglen together with other areas awaiting selection in the board's Cork No. 2 district will be considered later this year for selection under the rural electrification scheme but the board is not in a position to state when development of the area is likely to commence.
