Vol. 147 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Wheat Offals.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether the Flour Millers' Association informed him of their intention to increase the price of wheat offals before doing so; and, if so, if he communicated to them any view on the desirability or otherwise of so doing.

Flour millers sell the offals they produce at the best price obtainable, and the price obtainable is determined by the price at which offals can be imported from abroad.

The Flour Millers' Association did not give me advance advice of their intention to raise offal prices, and I did not communicate any view on the subject to the association. Like the flour millers, I must accept the fact that, as we are dependent on imports for about 45 per cent. of our requirements of wheaten offals, the price of offals on the Irish market will move up or down in sympathy with prices on the world markets.
