Vol. 147 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wicklow County Council Meeting.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) whether his attention has been directed to the report of the proceedings of a meeting of Wicklow County Council on 13th September, as published in a provincial newspaper; and, if so, whether he will make a statement in the matter; and (b) whether representations have since been made to him requesting the holding of a sworn inquiry into the administration of the council's engineering department, and, if so, whether he proposes to hold such an inquiry.

I have seen the Press report referred to. I have no statement to make on it. No request for a sworn inquiry has been made to me.

May I suggest that it is extraordinary that a member of the Government, while attending meetings of the Wicklow County Council——

Is this a supplementary question?

——should have made all types of allegations against the council's engineering department and should never have mentioned the matter to the responsible Minister?
