Vol. 147 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Lead Deposits Survey.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) if any recent survey of the lead deposits in Glenamohill near Fintown, County Donegal, has been made, and, if so, with what result, and (b) if it is proposed to initiate the development of such mineral deposits in that Gaeltacht area in the absence of private capital.

The mineral deposits referred to have been examined on several occasions in recent years. I am advised that a detailed exploration of the deposits would have to be undertaken in order to establish whether they are sufficiently extensive to warrant commercial development.

I am also advised that, on the basis of the geological information available, the expenditure of State funds on a detailed exploration would not be warranted.
