Vol. 147 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the residents of the Kilrossanty-Fews district, County Waterford, desire the early development of rural electrification in the area; and, if so, if he will ascertain from the E.S.B. when it will be found possible to start work in the area.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that an official canvass of the Kilrossanty area which includes Fews is expected to commence in about six weeks' time and that in due course the area will be considered by the board for development under the rural electrification scheme. I am not in a position to state when development of the area is likely to take place.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the E.S.B. intend to extend rural electrification to the districts of Liscannor, Doolin and Kilshanny, County Clare.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Liscannor area which includes Kilshanny and the greater part of Doolin has been considered for selection by the board on a number of occasions but has not so far been selected as the returns for the area have not compared favourably with those of other areas still awaiting development in the board's Limerick district. I am not in a position to say when development of the area is likely to take place but I understand that its prospects of being selected in the coming year would be enhanced if additional householders agreed to take supply.
