asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will consider holding a public inquiry into the administration of the bacon factories with a view to ascertaining whether they have been and are operated in the best interests of producers and consumers.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bacon Factories: Public Inquiry.
The answer is in the negative.
I consider that the interests of pig producers can best be served by their undertaking arrangements through cooperative societies of their own for processing the pigs produced by them. The retail prices of bacon are at present controlled in the interests of consumers by the Minister for Industry and Commerce.
