Vol. 147 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin-Madrid Air Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the increasing contacts between Spain and this country, he will investigate the possibility of inaugurating a direct air service between Dublin and Madrid before the commencement of the next tourist season.

The question of inaugurating air services between Dublin and any foreign city is a matter for Aer Lingus and I am bringing the Deputy's question to the notice of that company.

When the Minister brings the matter to the notice of Aer Lingus will he bear in mind that, as I understand, the Spanish Government contemplate opening a tourist agency in Ireland and it would seem, therefore, that there will be very heavy tourist traffic between the two countries and that it would be well for Aer Lingus to capture, if possible, the transport that will ensue therefrom?

I will see that that matter is brought to the notice of the company also.
