Vol. 147 No. 8

Committee on Finance. - Destructive Insects and Pests Bill, 1954—Money Resolution.

I move:—

That it is expedient to authorise such payment out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas as are necesary to give effect to any Act of the present session to extend the Destructive Insects and Pests Acts, 1877 to 1929, to agents for the biological control of plant pests and to repeal certain enactments.

I think it is right to tell the House why the Money Resolution is deemed to be necessary. It is possible but improbable that a situation might arise in which a crop would have to be destroyed if one of these pests was found in it and, therefore, it is necessary to have a Money Resolution in case money should have to be raised from the Exchequer to compensate the person whose crop is destroyed.

Question put and agreed to.
