Vol. 148 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Schools for Galway.

asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to invite tenders for the building of the new national school at Kiltartan, Gort, County Galway.

A grant has been sanctioned by my Department towards the cost of the erection of a new school to replace the present Kiltartan National School, Gort, County Galway. The Commissioners of Public Works are taking the necessary steps to enable the new school to be erected, but certain arrangements have still to be made before tenders can be invited. These arrangements will necessarily take some time to complete, but every effort is being made to have the case expedited.

I am unable to say, at present, when tenders will be invited.

Seán Mac Eochagáin

asked the Minister for Education if he proposes to establish a new national school at Renmore Barracks, Galway.

No application has been made to me in connection with the establishment of a national school at Renmore Barracks.

A scheme for the provision of adequate school accommodation for the Galway City area and vicinity is being developed. This scheme includes plans for the erection of a school at Bohermore, the site of which will be within a reasonable distance of Renmore.

asked the Minister for Education when a decision in regard to the sketch plans for a new vocational school at Loughrea, which were submitted to his Department in May, 1954, will be issued.

Revised sketch plans of the proposed school are being considered in my Department and I hope to be in a position to give a decision thereon within the next few days.
