Vol. 149 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Houses in County Cork.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has sanctioned proposals for the erection of new houses in Newtownshandrum, Charleville, County Cork, and, if so, when building operations will commence.

Plans prepared by the Cork County Council for a scheme of eight houses at Newtownshandrum were approved on 16th June, 1952. The council did not proceed with the scheme owing to uncertainty as to the exact number of houses required in the area and as to the availability of water and sewerage services. I understand that a recent survey of housing needs has established that eight houses are required. It is now a matter for the council to arrange to invite tenders for the scheme.
