Vol. 150 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blind Welfare Allowances.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state (a) the number of persons in receipt of blind welfare allowances from Dublin Corporation on 1st December, 1954, (b) the number of such persons who have been re-examined as to their degree of vision, and (c) the number of cases in which the allowance has been discontinued as a result of such examination.

The figures required by the Deputy are as follows:—(a) 943; (b) approximately 300, and (c) 47.

Might I ask the Minister if, in view of the fact that those people have been disallowed the welfare allowances by the corporation, he is prepared to set up some form of appeals committee to which these people can apply?

That is an entirely separate question.
