asked the Minister for Education if he will state the number of women teachers who had retired on marriage and who were acting as substitute teachers in primary schools on 30th April, 1955.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Women Substitute Teachers.
I presume that the Deputy's question concerns married women whose services are being accepted temporarily in primary schools where a qualified eligible teacher cannot be secured, rather than married women who are being recognised as substitutes for teachers absent owing to illness or other causes.
The number of women teachers who had been compulsorily retired on marriage and whose services were being accepted temporarily in primary schools on 1st January, 1955, was 107. Figures related to the 30th April, 1955, are not available at present but can be supplied to the Deputy later if necessary.
