Vol. 150 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Hospital Accommodation.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that the temporary medical staff have made repeated complaints in regard to their living conditions in the Central Hospital, Galway, and, if so, if he will have the matter investigated as soon as possible.

While I am aware that in common with patient accommodation and with nursing staff accommodation the living accommodation of the resident medical staff of the Central Hospital, Galway, is unsatisfactory and must necessarily continue to be so until the new premises now under construction are available for occupation in the near future, I am not aware that the resident medical staff have made repeated complaints in recent times about the position. I am aware that in August, 1952, the then resident medical staff made representations to the hospital authority about their living accommodation and that as a result of these representations my predecessor agreed, as a temporary expedient, that some members of that staff could live outside the hospital—a facility which is being availed of.

As the position should be righted in the near future, I do not consider that an investigation is necessary.
