Mr. Lemass

asked the Taoiseach if he will give an indication of the character of the transactions described as other capital transactions in the balance of payments statistics published in the Statistical Abstract.

The heading described as "other capital transactions" in the balance of international payments statement includes items such as loans and advances to Irish residents by external insurance and finance companies, capital provided by British companies for Irish associates, changes in the net deposits held by the commercial banks on behalf of their extern customers, changes in amount outstanding in respect of Irish bank acceptances discounted in London, credit extended by foreign suppliers to Irish importers, external subscriptions to new issues by the State and local authorities, property transactions, dealings through extern stockbrokers other than by the banks, and redemption of land bonds by externs.
