Vol. 153 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Utility Societies and Housing Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) whether members of public utility societies who have paid their membership fee and who receive housing grants from his Department are obliged to make any contribution from such grants to the funds of the society, and (b) whether officials of these societies are authorised to make deductions from such grants when they receive them on behalf of a member.

Housing grants to public utility societies are payable to the societies and not to the members. The question whether a deduction may be made by a public utility society from a grant received on behalf of a member for services rendered on his behalf and at his behest is a matter for determination between the member and the society.
