Vol. 153 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Enniscorthy Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received housing proposals from the Enniscorthy Urban District Council, and, if so, what is the present position in the matter.

Plans for a scheme of 32 houses were submitted to my Department by Enniscorthy Urban District Council in October, 1954, and in the following month the council were advised of the amendments which were considered to be necessary. Revised plans have been requested on a number of occasions but have not yet been submitted to the Department.

Somebody must have misinformed the council because we were told the Department was holding up the housing scheme. I am glad the Minister has made it clear it is the officials in the local authority who are doing it.

I can assure the Deputy according to my information it is not the Department. As far as I am aware the county council architect also acts as architect for the Enniscorthy Urban District Council. He has a great deal of work at the present time and the council are considering the appointment of an assistant architect which will relieve the pressure.
