Vol. 153 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Schools.

asked the Minister for Education whether tenders for the erection of a new national school at Howth have been received, and whether a contractor will be selected before the end of December.

Tenders for the erection, at Howth, County Dublin, of new national schools for senior boys and infant boys and girls have been received and are being considered by the Commissioners of Public Works. As certain further arrangements remain to be completed, it is unlikely that a contract can be placed until early in the new year.

asked the Minister for Education whether a suitable site has yet been secured for the erection of a new school at Shankill to replace the existing Tillystown national school, and, if so, when it is proposed to commence building operations.

A suitable site has been offered for a new school to replace the present Tillystown national school at Shankill, County Dublin, and steps are already in train on the reverend manager's behalf with a view to securing title to the plot.

The other preliminary arrangements which have to be made before a grant can be sanctioned by my Department towards the cost of the erection of the new school have been initiated. These arrangements will necessarily take a considerable time to complete and I am unable to say at present when it is likely that building operations will be commenced. Every effort will, however, be made to expedite matters as far as possible.
