Vol. 153 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Office of Public Works—Workers' Pay Rates.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has sanctioned a general increase in the rates of pay of gangers, drivers, charge-hands and men employed by the Office of Public Works; further, what was the outcome of the meeting held last March between the men's representatives and officials of the office.

I assume the question relates to men employed on arterial drainage schemes. Increases in pay have recently been granted to foremen, charge-hands and labourers employed on these schemes. The rates payable to gangers, drivers and others are at present under consideration and a decision will, I hope, be reached shortly.

Following the meeting referred to, which was with representatives of gangers, an increased annual leave allowance was conceded to that grade. The outstanding claims raise issues of a general nature and are still under examination.
