Vol. 154 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin City Bus Services.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has received representations in regard to the shortage of bus drivers on Dublin City services and the lack of provision made for sudden illness, accident or the inevitable sleep-in, with the result that, morning after morning, buses are lying idle in all the garages while workers have to queue for long periods in cold and rain and, accordingly, are often late for work; and, if so, if he will ask C.I.E. to remedy this position forthwith.

The answer is in the negative. I must remind the Deputy, however, that matters such as this, which relate to internal administration, fall entirely within the province of the Board of C.I.E., which was appointed by the Government to manage the undertaking. Any representations should, accordingly, be made direct to C.I.E.

If it happens that, in spite of repeated representations to C.I.E., nothing has been done, has the Minister no function to make them do something?

I think the Deputy will agree that this is a matter of day-to-day administration. I will help to this extent, by bringing to the notice of C.I.E. the question and my reply.

A matter of day-to-day administration!
