Vol. 154 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pedestrian Crossings.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange to have pedestrian rights at street crossings defined and published; further, whether he is aware that the white lines or studded markings receive little or no recognition in Dublin City, and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

My functions in the matter are confined to prescribing suitable markings and devices to indicate the existence and limits of pedestrian crossings in general. This will be dealt with in comprehensive regulations now being drafted under powers conferred by the Local Government Act, 1955. It is for the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána to prescribe the respective rights of the various types of road user at pedestrian crossings, and to arrange for the enforcement of such rights.
