asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the percentage of moisture which his Department regards as a normal average for (a) Irish wheat and (b) English wheat.
Written Answers. - Moisture Content of Wheat.
The moisture content of the bulk of the wheat grown in this country varies between 20 per cent. and 25 per cent. In exceptional circumstances the moisture content may be above or below these figures. It is not possible, however, to quote an average figure for moisture content in Irish wheat because of variations in weather conditions during the harvest period and in methods of harvesting.
As a general rule the moisture content of English wheat is lower than that of Irish wheat.
