Vol. 154 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rearrangement of Roscommon Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands what progress has been made by the Land Commission in the last 12 months in connection with the preparation of a rearrangement scheme for the Tredennick estate, County Roscommon.

The Land Commission have instituted proceedings for the resumption of nine holdings on this estate and inquiries are in progress in regard to several other holdings. The preparation of a rearrangement scheme must await the outcome of these proceedings.

Is the Minister aware that on the Tredennick estate there are at least 400 small-holders who are not in a position to avail of council loans and State grants for the purpose of erecting new houses because they cannot afford to supplement these grants and loans from their own resources? Is he aware that, due to the condition of these areas, it is absolutely essential that rearrangement of this estate takes place at the earliest possible moment?

The Land Commission, as I told the Deputy, is engaged in proceedings for the resumption of nine holdings on this estate and inquiries are in progress in a large number of other holdings.
