Vol. 154 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Garda Station.

andJ. Lynch asked the Minister for Justice (a) when it is intended to erect Garda barracks at Gurranebraher, Spangle Hill, Ballyphehane, and other thickly populated areas in Cork where housing schemes are well advanced and which are at present far away from any Garda station; and (b) if he will consider the redistribution of existing stations in the centre of the city.

It is agreed that a Garda station is required in Cork. Proposals for the purchase of a site for a station to serve the areas in question and also the areas at present served by Watercourse Road and Shandon stations are at present under consideration. Following the acquisition of a site some time must elapse before the station can be erected as more urgent works in connection with the improvement of Garda accommodation must receive priority.

Is the Minister aware that since I first got that reply new schools and new churches have been built in these areas? Surely, he ought to take steps to have Garda barracks there also.
