Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Athlone District Hospital Improvements.

asked the Minister for Health if he will give full particulars of the Athlone District Hospital improvements.

The reconstruction of Athlone District Hospital, which is now in progress, will provide the following improvements and additions to the hospital:—

1. Improved ward accommodation on ground and first floors, with a lift, outside corridors and the usual ancillary ward accommodation.

2. New entrance hall, central kitchen, stores, nurses' and maids' dining-rooms.

3. Clinic/dispensary with separate entrance and containing examination, consulting and dental rooms, surgery and x-ray facilities.

4. Operating theatre suite.

5. Reconstructed convent and chapel; matron's flat and doctor's flat.

6. Central heating throughout; improved hot water services and electrical installations.

When the work is completed there will be provision for a total of 83 patients' beds—45 male on the first floor and 38 female on the ground floor, including a separate maternity unit.
